Infrastructure Engineer(visa sponsorship)
Job Description
About the Company
Atomic Semi is reimagining semiconductor manufacturing by building a compact, high-speed fabrication environment from the ground up. Instead of relying on conventional large-scale fabs, the company focuses on simplicity, speed, and full-stack ownership—from materials to final chip architecture.
Founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller, Atomic Semi combines experimental thinking with deep industry expertise. The team embraces a builder’s mindset: if something doesn’t exist, they create it.
About the Infrastructure Team
The Infrastructure team is essential to everything happening inside Atomic Semi. They develop and maintain the internal systems that allow engineers to design, test, and operate fabrication processes efficiently.
Their mission is straightforward but ambitious:
build infrastructure that is fast, reliable, and fully under control—without unnecessary complexity.
Role Overview
As an Infrastructure & Site Reliability Engineer, you will take ownership of the systems powering Atomic Semi’s fabrication environment. This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll design and operate backend infrastructure built primarily on bare-metal systems.
Unlike many modern environments, this role avoids heavy reliance on cloud-native tools. Instead, the focus is on performance, simplicity, and direct interaction with hardware.
You’ll work with technologies such as:
- Linux (bare-metal)
systemd
Rust, Go, and Python-based services
Whether you’re early in your career or an experienced engineer, what matters most is your ability to build real, working systems and your enthusiasm for low-level engineering.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design and deploy efficient, minimal infrastructure systems for fab operations
Manage on-premise servers, virtual machines, and embedded devices connected to fabrication equipment
Operate and maintain backend services (e.g., monitoring, databases, and messaging systems)
Build networking foundations including DNS, VPNs, service discovery, and secure communication layers
Develop observability tools for both system metrics and high-frequency machine data
Implement backup strategies, replication systems, and cross-site connectivity
Automate operating system builds, deployments, and software release pipelines
Strengthen security practices including authentication, authorization, and secrets management
Contribute to internal infrastructure-as-code tooling
What You’ll Need
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
Proven experience building and maintaining backend systems or SRE platforms
Strong programming skills in at least one compiled, statically typed language
Ability to independently take systems from idea to production
Bonus Experience
- Familiarity with Rust or Go
Experience managing bare-metal infrastructure without cloud abstractions
Interest in performance tuning and low-level system design
Work Environment & Benefits
Atomic Semi offers a startup environment where engineers have real ownership and impact. The company provides:
- Competitive salary: $125,000 – $195,000 plus equity
Health coverage (medical, dental, vision)
Paid time off, including holidays and sick leave
Visa sponsorship support
- Retirement savings plan (401k)
Paid parental leave
Ongoing learning and development programs
Commuter benefits and late-night transport support
Daily meals and stocked kitchen
Compliance & Equal Opportunity
Atomic Semi is an equal opportunity employer committed to inclusive hiring practices. This role may involve working with technologies regulated under U.S. export control laws, and employment will be subject to compliance requirements.
