FION Energy is expanding its engineering team and is looking for an experienced IoT Platform Engineer to help shape the future of intelligent energy infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to work on advanced software solutions that manage industrial battery storage and photovoltaic (PV) systems using AI-driven optimization.
The company develops end-to-end technology covering cloud infrastructure, energy optimization, edge computing, and real-time device control. As part of a growing startup environment, you will collaborate directly with the CTO and contribute to the architecture and deployment of scalable IoT and edge systems used in live industrial environments.

About the Opportunity

This position is ideal for engineers who enjoy combining strategic system design with hands-on technical implementation. You will work across cloud and edge environments, helping to build a modern platform capable of managing distributed energy assets efficiently and securely.
FION Energy’s platform is already supporting operational battery systems in the field, helping industrial customers reduce energy costs through:

  • Peak shaving
  • Self-consumption optimization

The company’s long-term goal is to create a fully integrated energy management ecosystem connecting machine learning, cloud orchestration, and industrial edge devices.

Key Responsibilities

As an IoT Platform Engineer, your responsibilities may include:

  • Designing and developing scalable IoT and edge infrastructure
  • Managing Linux-based industrial edge devices deployed in production
  • Building integrations with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, MQTT, or OPC-UA
  • Supporting remote fleet management, OTA updates, and monitoring systems
  • Collaborating on cloud-to-edge data pipelines and real-time control systems
  • Improving system reliability, observability, and operational performance
  • Assisting with hardware evaluation and deployment strategies
  • Contributing to architectural decisions for future platform growth
  • Working closely with product and engineering leadership on technical direction

Candidate Profile

FION Energy is seeking a technically strong engineer with practical experience in IoT systems and industrial deployments.
Essential Skills & Experience
Applicants should ideally demonstrate:

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Experience deploying and maintaining IoT or edge systems in production
  • Strong Linux system administration and troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols
  • Experience working with physical hardware in operational environments
  • Strong ownership mentality and startup adaptability
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams

Preferred Experience

  • Additional experience that would be advantageous includes:
  • Knowledge of energy systems, batteries, or power grids
  • Fleet management and remote device orchestration
  • Embedded Linux tools such as Yocto or Buildroot
  • Containerized edge deployments
  • Cloud IoT platforms including AWS IoT or Azure IoT Hub
  • Programming experience in Go, Rust, or Java
  • German language proficiency
